Underlayment Craze Causing Dew Points Within Walls
The increased use of tight underlayments in the field under sidings and roofing systems has caused some issues to arise. One important problem is the reliance on these superior underlayments as part of a “system.” It has always been our contention that underlayments should never be viewed as primary protection in the field.

We have posted comments as to the causes for the development of these new underlayments as being the lower quality of the new primary products, or flaws in the systems employed and increased warranty demands. Some Sidings fully expected to leak are “flashed” with underlayments. This thinking is an affront to a old world installer of roofing and siding. We solicit the comments of installer professionals on this blog.
