 Roofing on this home had been replaced in post WWII era and some of the techniques used were below the standards of the Olde World Craftsmen of yesterday.  The modern attempts at the Slater's trade is sometimes a compromise both in materials and methods.  The ridge was flashed in tarpaper, or "felt," as we know it.  The nails were galvanized, but the slates were sound and probably from a northern vein.  The Follansbee Terne Coated Steel was standard and had survivedat least two slate roofs.
